Practical Info

The essentials — confirmed with an official source, not just this page.

Visa & Entry Requirements

Most nationalities need a visa to enter Tanzania — many can apply for an e-visa online in advance or get one on arrival, but this varies by passport and does change from time to time. Check your nearest Tanzanian embassy or the official immigration website before you travel, and make sure your passport has at least six months' validity and a couple of blank pages.

Health & Safety

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission — check current requirements with a travel clinic. Malaria prophylaxis is generally recommended for this region; talk to your doctor a few weeks before departure. We carry a comprehensive first-aid kit on every trip and brief every group on altitude and heat precautions.

Packing Guides

Neutral, lightweight layers for game drives (avoid bright white and dark blue/black, which attract tsetse flies in some areas); a warm layer and rain shell for early mornings and Ngorongoro's crater rim; proper broken-in boots and cold-weather layers if you're climbing Kilimanjaro or Meru. We send a trip-specific packing list once your dates are confirmed.

Currency & Payments

The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency, but US Dollars are widely accepted for park fees, hotels, and larger purchases — bring newer, undamaged bills (2009 or later), as older notes are often refused. Mobile money and cards are increasingly common in towns, but cash is still king in rural areas and markets.

Best Time to Travel

June to October is the classic dry season — best for general game viewing and the northern Serengeti migration crossings. January to March covers the Ndutu calving season in the southern plains. April and May are the long rains — quieter, greener, and cheaper, but some camps close and roads can be difficult.

Requirements above are general guidance and can change — always confirm visa, health, and entry rules with an official government or embassy source close to your departure date. We're happy to help point you in the right direction if you're not sure where to start.
