Continue north to Volcanoes National Park for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking to see the endangered mountain gorillas and playful golden monkeys.

The adventure deepens in Nyungwe National Park, a biodiversity haven where you can trek to observe chimpanzees, wander through lush tea plantations, and cross Africa’s famous canopy walkway. Your trip concludes at the tranquil shores of Lake Kivu, where you can relax, enjoy water activities, and soak in the peaceful scenery before returning to Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Arrive in Rwanda’s vibrant capital, Kigali, where our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy an orientation tour of the city, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and local craft markets. Evening at leisure.
Overnight: Kigali

 

Day 2: Kigali – Akagera National Park

After breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to the Big Five. Enjoy a scenic game drive in the afternoon, spotting elephants, buffalo, giraffes, antelope, and more. In the evening, relax at your lodge with panoramic park views.

Day 3: Akagera Game Drive & Boat Safari – Volcanoes National Park

Begin the day with an early morning game drive for a chance to spot predators such as lions and leopards. Later, take a boat safari on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife. In the afternoon, drive north to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in time to settle in at your lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today is the highlight of your journey—gorilla trekking. After a briefing, head into the misty forests to encounter one of the habituated gorilla families. Spend an awe-inspiring hour observing them in their natural habitat. Afternoon at leisure or visit local cultural centers.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trek – Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a guided trek to see the rare and playful golden monkeys in the park. Then journey south through Rwanda’s scenic countryside to Nyungwe National Park, stopping at cultural sites and viewpoints along the way.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

Wake up early for an exciting chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe’s lush rainforest. Later, take on Africa’s famous canopy walkway for breathtaking views over the forest canopy. Optional tea plantation tour in the afternoon.
Overnight: Nyungwe National Park

 

Day 7: Nyungwe – Lake Kivu

After breakfast, travel to the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes. Relax by the beach, enjoy a boat trip to nearby islands, or try kayaking on the calm waters. Evening at leisure.
Overnight: Lake Kivu

 

Day 8: Lake Kivu – Kigali – Departure

Enjoy a relaxed morning by the lake before driving back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, visit artisan markets for last-minute souvenirs. Transfer to the airport for your onward journey, marking the end of your remarkable Rwanda adventure.
