About the Sea Turtle Aquarium

The Mnarani Marine Turtle Conservation Pond, commonly known as the Nungwi Sea Turtle Aquarium, was established by local fishermen and conservationists to protect sea turtles injured in fishing nets or stranded along Zanzibar’s beaches.

The aquarium uses a natural tidal lagoon, providing a safe environment for turtles to heal and grow before being released back into the Indian Ocean. Visitors can observe different species of turtles, including Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles, up close in their peaceful surroundings.
